A sandbox or master course is a great way to build your course content to be imported into the official course students are connected to. Because a sandbox course is a manually created course, it does not turn off at the end of each school year like courses that pull from Powerschool. It allows you to work on your content over the summer, and it's a safe place to create the content as you get it ready for students. Students are not connected to your sandbox and you can have a safe place to work and create without fear of them accessing content that isn't publish ready.
To create a manual course, follow the steps below:
Click on the Canvas icon from the Cox Mill Homepage and login with your Cabarrus County account.
When you first login, you will come to your dashboard where you will see courses you are enrolled in or are a teacher of.
You may have to scroll down. On the right side of your dashboard is a button called “Start New Course”. Click on it.
In the box that pops up, give your course a name. This is the course you will create content to be copied into the courses your students are connected to. Name it in a way you’ll be able to easily remember that this is your sandbox or master course. My course is named “Parker Sandbox”.
Leave the Content License set to “Private (Copyrighted)”
Click the blue “Create Course” button.
